Children’s Day
The Rainbow Café opened on April 26th
2013 with a Children’s Day event. Ten guests and nine club members attended.
Club members gave a talk on the origins and
customs of Children’s Day, such as the display of koi-nobori (carp streamers), eating Kashiwa-mochi (pounded rice cake wrapped in oak leaves) and shobuyu (bathing with iris leaves).
Other activities were making origami samurai helmets (kabuto), which are quick and easy to make, and which were taken home as souvenirs, having tea with kashiwa-mochi, and singing the popular Koi-nobori song
